Maia Negre is a twenty-eight year old artist, born of Chinese and French descent. A California native, and raised in the San Francisco Bay Area, Maia moved to Santa Cruz at the age of seventeen and began painting with watercolors and studying art at Cabrillo College in Aptos. At this same time, Maia also began surfing, which not only became an intregal part of her life, but also had an enormous influence on her art.
Her work is characterized by her empathic use of bold, vibrant colors, simplistic and imaginative nature, and passion for the ocean. Much of her recent works are abstractions of the beauty, lifestyle, and energy found in the ocean and waves, as well as other local Santa Cruz scenery. Maia has recently expanded into the oil paint medium, but continues to paint with a fluid, impressionistic, water-like style.
She holds a B.A. in Fine Art, emphasis in painting, and minor in Business from San Jose State University.
She features her work at various art and wine festivals, galleries, and private shows throughout Santa Cruz County. Her work is collected by art lovers across the country.
Maia is commissioned by local community organizations, clothing companies, and numerous individual clients. Each inspiration continuously adds to her expanding portfolio.
